Abstract

An infrared photo diode electrode (IPDE) was applied to a cyclic voltammetric (CV) assay of vitamin C (VC) in drinking water. Compared with other common electrodes, the IPDE showed an extraordinarily sensitive peak current. The anodic peak of the VC appeared at 0.0 V (versus Ag/AgCl/KCl) with the IPDE. The experimental conditions for the CV assay were optimized at a pH of 2.91 and a scan rate of 0.3 Vs-1. Voltammetric working ranges of 0-0.7 ugL-1 and 0-4 mgL-1 VC were obtained. The relative standard deviation of 0.169 (n = 15) in the 0.1 mgL-1 VC, and the detection limit of 0.06 ugL-1 VC, were attained under optimum conditions.
